Excelsior Bay.

In 1852, an adventuresome New Yorker made a brief excursion to Lake Minnetonka and was so impressed, that upon returning to New York he established the "Excelsior Pioneer Foundation". This group of hearty settlers returned to Lake Minnetonka in the Spring of 1853 and pitched their tents where the city of Excelsior stands today.

The history of Excelsior is one of grand hotels, sweeping promenades, waterfront casinos, Victorian gardens, amusement parks, and steam ships.
